This is a model of the prototype vessel for the Galaxy Class, commissioned in 2357. In 2375, the U.S.S. Galaxy was involved in a decisive battle in the Chin'toka System, a skirmish near the end of the Alpha Quadrant's war against the Dominion.

This model is depicted as it would look after the battle-damage suffered in the Chin'toka System was repaired at a drydock. The Starfleet symbols reflect the standard for Starfleet vessels of the time.

The only modification to this kit is the addition of the indented window set in front of the Captain's Yacht on the saucer bottom. This feature was left out of the kit and was scratchbuilt for accuracy.

The model was built straight from the box, with some custom made decals, decals from AMT's U.S.S. Defiant, and aftermarket decals from Web Games. The Defiant's Starfleet symbols were used in place of the Next Generation era symbols to indicate an upgrade to the vessel from the time it was commissioned; back when it still retained its NX registry prefix.

The nacelle grills were painted Mat Sky Blue, and when dry were lightly painted with Testors' fluorescent Horizon Blue to give them a bit of a glow.
The model was airbrushed with Model Master's French Light Blue Gray, and the 'Aztec' pattern was carefully hand painted with Future Floor Wax. This gave a slightly semi-gloss shine to literally half the vessel, while only darkening the base color of the waxed panels a minor amount. The effect is that the model looks to be a uniform color at a distance, but the pattern becomes apparent close-up, depending on the angle of the light.

The background of this photo was created with Adobe Photoshop. The sun flare visible near the starboard side is illuminating a portion of the saucer's underside. The area of the saucer was selected and the brightness was increased. The engines and the deflector dish were slightly illuminated with Photoshop.

The USS Galaxy received a Silver Medal for sci-fi at the 'Maritime Modelers Meet' Show and Contest in April, 2000.
